All buckshot pellet counts listed above are for standard lead shot sizes. The pellet count is listed for individual lead pellets only. This buckshot pellet count chart is accurate for all lead pellet manufacturers – as the nominal size is used across the industry. For correct shotshell reloading, always use buckshot pellets with the same nominal pellet size and weight.
Note: #4 through #1 buckshot have the same naming scheme as #4 through #1 pellets typically used for bird hunting (lead, steel, heavier than lead shot). These pellets do not have the identical pellet counts and cannot be used interchangeably. Be aware that buckshot pellets are larger than small game pellets, and the smallest buckshot pellet (#4), is larger than F-shot steel.
Keep in mind, though all buckshot pellets range between 0.24” and 0.39” in diameter, not all shot manufacturers use the same processes, and therefore some pellet counts can be slightly different. When exact pellet counts are important, please check with the manufacturer for dimensional information. For info on Buckshot pellet sizes, see this chart.
